About card properties

Card properties are all the variables you can apply to cards for grouping and reporting purposes. Card properties give Mingle its flexibility and you can create as many card properties as your project requires. When you save projects as templates, Mingle retains all card properties and this is useful if you need to create new projects based on the same card properties.

Card property values

For each card property, you must also create the values that are available for that property. For example, a card property of Priority might have card property values of Urgent, High, Medium and Low. Once you've created a card property, click on its name to add property values.

Hint: You can create new card property values directly from within cards. When you select a card property as if to change the value, select New value....

See Creating card properties for step-by-step instructions for creating card property values.

Hint: The way you order card property values in the Project admin > Card properties section determines how Mingle orders and colors cards in the Grid view (if you select the option to Color and Sort by property values).

Deleting card properties

You can delete card properties from Project admin > Card properties and clicking the Delete link.

Or by clicking on a property name and then clicking the Delete property link.

Caution: Deleting card properties potentially has a large impact on many parts of your project. Any properties you delete will no longer be available for cards. Mingle deletes any transitions that use the card property. Any graphs, charts or tables that use that property to generate reporting will no longer work. Mingle will no longer publish any Atom feeds or emails that are based on that property. Deleting properties will also remove history entries if they're related to that property. We strongly recommend that you create a backup (click the Backup link) in case you need to restore the project.

See Editing and deleting card properties for step-by-step instructions for deleting card properties.

Note: You can't delete card property values - only card properties.

Locked/hidden card properties

For each card property you can indicate whether it's visible or hidden, or whether it's locked or unlocked.

Locked properties mean that only project administrators edit property names and add or change card property values.

Hidden properties don't display on cards when users are editing card details. They are also unavailable for transitions.

There are two ways you can show/hide properties or lock/unlock properties. From Project admin > Card properties, you can click hide it or show it to hide/show properties, or lock it or unlock it to lock/unlock properties.

Hint: You can click the List only visible properties link to hide those card properties marked as 'hidden'. This is useful if you have a lot of card properties to manage. Mingle shows hidden properties as grayed-out (as in the property Owner in the example below).

If you click on a card property name, Mingle also gives you the option to show/hide or lock/unlock the card property.
