Creating new cards

Mingle lets you create new cards in two main ways:

• individually, through the user interface
• in bulk, via a card import from Excel.

Note: This topic only describes how to create individual new cards via the user interface since the process of creating new cards from an import is discussed in detail elsewhere.

Whenever you create a card within a project, Mingle automatically assigns a new unique sequential number to the card. Mingle uses this number to identify each card, and you can use this number to create links between cards, revisions and wiki pages.

Creating individual new cards

When you create a new card, Mingle creates the card according to the context in which you're currently working, whether on the All tab, a custom tab, a saved view or any other values as set on the card filters.

For example, if you're looking at a list of cards displayed on a tab, creating a new card will automatically apply all the card properties as defined by that tab. You can see in the example below that there's a tab called Sprint 1 which is defined according to cards that are Sprint = 1 with Type = story. Notice that in the new card field, Mingle states that you'll be entering a new card for 'Sprint 1'.

Click the Add button to simply create a new card title with the card properties of the tab, or click the Add with detail... button if you want to update the card description and/or change card properties and tags.

How to create new cards

1. Sign in to Mingle and open the project for which to create new cards (if not already working in the project).
2. Click the All tab, open a saved view, or click on a custom tab.
   This lets you determine the properties that will apply to your new card(s). At this stage you can adjust the list filter or use any other method to locate the types of cards that match the card filters for the card you want to create.
   
   
3. Click in the blank field at the top of the page and type a name for the new card.
   
   
4. If you want to:
   • create the card with only the name and the card properties as they're displayed in the Filter list by... component, click the Add button.
     Mingle creates the new card and adds it to the currently displayed card view.
     
     
   • add a description to the card and/or change the card's properties and tags, click the Add with detail... button.
     Mingle creates the new card and opens the card for editing.
     
     
5. Update the card as required.
   From here you can:
   • format the description
   • add comments
   • change the card properties (and create new property values by clicking on a property value and selecting New Value...)
   • update the card name
   • attach objects and links
6. Click the Save link.
   Mingle creates the card and saves your changes.

Hint: You can create shortcuts in Mingle's main header area for creating cards with specific properties. For example, you can create shortcuts for creating new user stories, new bugs, new risks etc.
