Import / Export component

What you can do

The Import / Export component lets you export the cards in the current view, or import a list of cards from Excel.

Excel Import

Export to Excel

Mingle displays all exported cards in tab delimited format which you can copy and paste into an open Microsoft Excel document.

Mingle exports only those cards in the current view, not all cards in the project. When working in a list view, the card export doesn't take into account any cards you've selected. Mingle exports all cards in the view, not just those that display on the first page, if there are more than 25 cards in the view.

Options

When you export cards, you can specify what card data to export. The options you choose are remembered and used as default values when you export cards in the future.

Export options

The follow options are available:

  • On the list view and hierarchy view, you can select whether to export all columns, or only the columns that are displayed in the card list. This option is not applicable for the grid view or the tree view.
  • Select whether or not to include the card description in the export.

Import from Excel

When importing cards, Mingle displays a large blank field which lets you paste copied cells from Microsoft Excel. By following the onscreen instructions Mingle will guide you through the import process.

Excel Import

If you are importing new cards Mingle will automatically assign card numbers to newly created cards. If you wish to update existing cards ensure that any previous card numbers are included in the imported data.

A common use of the import functionality is to introduce specific cards from one Mingle project to another. If you are using the import in this way ensure that any card numbers that were exported from the original project are removed from the import. Card numbers are not unique across projects and you may update existing cards instead of creating new cards if you do not remove the card numbers.
