Creating Mingle projects
Before your team can start using Mingle, you must create and configure a project. You must be a Mingle administrator to create new projects, and you can create as many projects as you like.
Create new projects from the Current projects page. This is the first page you see after signing in to Mingle.
If you can't see any options to create new projects, you're not registered as Mingle administrator. Please contact a Mingle administrator to update your privileges.
There are three ways you can create projects
Create a new project from template
If you create a project from a template you need to decide which template is best for you.
You can use one of Mingle's pre-configured project templates as a basis for creating your project. These templates are based on a variety of common agile methods and practices. Additionally, your organization may also have created a template or templates specific to your needs. If this is the case check the manage templates page for details of these templates.
-
To create a new project, click the New project link on the Current projects page (the first page you see after installation or logging on - click the Mingle logo to display this page).

-
When entering project details, select the 'Use an existing template' radio button and then choose the template you want to use as a basis for your project. You can of course choose to make a project without using a template, however that will involve additional project configuration.

- Select a template option
- Include - Exclude cards: The template may include some sample cards. Often they serve to illustrate some of the functionality of the template, by providing data for charts and tables for example. You can always delete these cards once you've created your new project and become familiar with the template. Alternatively you can choose 'Exclude Cards' to prevent them from being copied into your new project.
- Include - Exclude pages: The template may include some pre-built wiki pages. For example the Overview page which is generally setup to display project status reporting. You can always delete or modify these pages once you've created your new project and become familiar with the template. Alternatively you can choose 'Exclude Pages' to prevent them from being copied into your new project.
-
Click the 'Create project' link to complete the project creation.

Create a new project from scratch
-
To create a new project, click the New project link on the Current projects page (the first page you see after installation or logging on - click the Mingle logo to display this page).

-
Enter project details and select the 'Begin with a blank project' radio button.
The Advanced Options are already set with default values and are available for further project customization.
-
Click the 'Create project' link to complete project creation.

Create a new project from importing existing projects
-
You can create a new project by importing an existing Mingle project. Assuming you have already exported the Mingle project, you can click the Import project link on the Current projects page (the first page you see after installation or logging on - click the Mingle logo to display this page).

-
Choose the project export file and provide a project name and identifier.

-
Click the 'Import project' link to complete the project creation.

Any users in the imported project that don't already exist in your Mingle instance will be created. User passwords are not exported with a project. Therefore, a Mingle administrator will need to create a new password for these newly created users on the manage users page, unless you use external authentication such as LDAP.
After creating a new project you can also import existing card data from Microsoft Excel.
It's a good idea to first add users to Mingle before creating a project. Until you've added users, you'll be unable to assign any team members.
After you've created a project, you must configure the project accordingly. If you've imported an existing project or template, you may only have to modify a few properties and settings. However, if you create a new project from scratch, you must add all properties and settings manually.
