Install Twist

This section will take you through the basic installation instructions for Twist.

Prerequisites

Recommended to run on Windows, Linux or Mac OS X with JRE 1.5x or higher. See the System Requirements section for details.

Installation instructions

Download the appropriate Twist installer file for your operating system. You can do this at the Twist download site.

If you use Groovy, make sure you download the “Twist with Groovy” installer file.

Windows

  1. Double-click the Twist installer file and follow the prompts to install Twist.
  2. During installation, Twist will ask you to:
    • select a destination directory. This is where Twist will be installed.
    • choose a start menu folder. You can chose to create icons for all users, or even not to create icons on the Start Menu.
    • accept the license agreement.

Linux

  1. Open the Twist installer file by either clicking through the GUI or by executing the file in terminal.
  2. Set execute attributes on the .sh file if required (refer your linux documentation for the same)

  3. During installation, Twist will ask you to:
    • select a destination directory. This is where Twist will be installed. Ensure you have write permissions on this directory.
    • select a directory to create symlinks in. Ensure you have write permissions on this directory. You could also chose to not create symlinks.
    • accept the license agreement.

Mac OS X

  1. Place the downloaded file (.tar.gz) in the directory where you want to use Twist.
  2. Click on the file, and it'll get extracted on to a “twist” folder in the chosen directory.
  3. You will find the Twist executable (twist.app) inside the “twist” folder.
